DumbleBadger

I was not originally going to have another post today but my sisters behaviour last night compelled me to post as it annoyed me greatly. In her rants and mumbles she kept on talking about that the life that she leads now is not the life that she wanted or was meant to have and that everything that had has occurred in her life was forced on her by others and that she had no choice. These rumblings were all because she had no money and there for no cigarettes.

This lead me to think of free will which of course lead me to think of Harry Potter and in particular Dumbledore. My sister is the one that introduced me to JK Rowling’s world which has had a massive effect on me and I can’t believe that she has forgotten the story and also the major that is the choices that we make are what makes us who we are.

In the books Dumbledore refers to the choices people make twice. The first time in second book Chamber of Secrets when he says to Harry that “it is the choice that show what we truly are, not our abilities.” The second times is in my favourite of the books Goblet of Fire where he address the whole of the school after the death of Cedric Diggory, may Merlin bless his soul, “Remember, if the time should come when you have to make between what is right and what is easy what happened to a boy who was kind and brave…”

Now how this applies to my sister is that that no matter she is saying right now or when she is suffering from whatever withdrawal that is I going through is that it was her choice to date and marry the man that she did and have his children. She was not forced to take up smoking and take the drugs that she took. She might had been encouraged in some way to do so but she could have easily said no. It is was her choice to sign away the townhouse that she owned to him and sell the house and sign the paperwork that gave him more money when they separated, she was advised to do neither but she still did it. She might have really had no choice to come and live in our house but at that time she had nowhere else to go but she does have a “boyfriend” and she can stay with him but choose not to and then complains about it.

I really don’t know what life she thinks she should have had but there is no point in complaining about what you don’t have and focus on what you do because that will only make you unhappy and those around you unhappy. I never once thought that I would be the age that I am and have never married and still living with my parents, but I am and I am not going to complain about it and blame anyone else for it because it is my own doing and fault that it is the way that is it. I have a roof over my head, a good job, a family, friends, boyfriend and dog who love me and who I love in return. I have travelled and have hobbies that keep me entertained. It might not be much but it is all that I need.

Sure I suffer from anxiety, depression and headaches but I don’t see the point of complaining about what I don’t have and what I should have because that will only make me miserable. This leads to another Dumbledore quote and what I will leave us with today

Spooky Badger

Since I am not sure if I will be posting again before Halloween on Saturday I thought I would use this post to celebrate the holiday and spooky things.

In Australia Halloween isn’t really celebrated though admittedly it is growing in popularity. I do remember however when growing up in Melbourne that we did go Trick or Treating but when we moved to Sydney it wasn’t a done thing. Now I live in Brisbane and we have never had kids come to our door asking for treats though we always have something set out just in case.

This year I will attending at Halloween party thrown by my younger brother. It looks like it is going to be a big do, all up. They just bought the house earlier this year so it is also a house warming party as such. I will probably just wear my Harry Potter robes and carry one of the wands that I own as a costume though it is not compulsory to wear a costume.

I am not a fan of spooky/horror movies at all I have seen a couple in my life time which I have willingly and unwillingly watched. Strangely enough I do like to read about them on Wikipedia and read reviews for them as well. I have probably seem more anime and TV with horror themes than actual movies. Some of the anime that I have watched in full or seen episodes off just as a test to see if I will watch the whole thing are:

Black Blood Brothers

Ghost Hound

Ghost Hunt

Hellsing

High School of the Dead – Watched most of it but didn’t like it all that much due to the women all having big boobs

Paranoia Agent

Blue Exorcist – Both the series and the movie

Blood: the Last Vampire and Blood+

Vampire Hunter D

Tokyo Ghoul – I have watched a couple of eps of this and might go back to it

Deadman Wonderland – I have watched a couple of eps of this and might go back to it

Future Diary – I have watched a couple of eps of this and might go back to it

Supernatural: The Anime Series

With that last one I am I guess I should include Supernatural the TV show as one of the horror related programs that I have watched. I am up to date with the show though the most recent episode I haven’t seen yet as it has not aired here and won’t until Monday. I like the show and own the whole series on iTunes and have a version all the Pop Vinyl characters. Sam and Dean guard my desk at work along with Darryl Dixon from the Walking Dead, which I will get to later. I also have Castiel, Crowley and Charlie at home. I also listen to a re-watch podcast for them that I should have mentioned yesterday but forgot. It is called Supernatural: The Road So far and is hosted by two girls Sam and Malik though Sam used to host with a guy named Matt who had to leave though he comes and hosts every now and again. They have a great Facebook group as well.

Now The Walking Dead… Look I am really not that into zombies, though I do love iZombie which I guess we can add in a way to the list but that has a lot little more humour in it than Supernatural and definitely more than The Walking Dead. I have not seen all of the show. I got through season 4 and then lost interest but at one stage, especially in the first couple of seasons I was really into it and remember having this aha moment after Shane died in relation to the disease but sort of forgot about it. Might have to re-watch the first two seasons again to see if I can get that moment back and work on a proper theory. I just need to find the time…

Other horror themed shows that I have watched in full or not are:

Constantine

Grimm

The X-Files

Twin Peaks

Fringe

Pod Badge

I mentioned in an earlier post that I listen to podcasts and I really enjoy that though at the moment I think I am listening to too many but honestly I do not know which ones to give up because I enjoy them all. My love of podcast started with Harry Potter of course because all my fandom related loves lead back to Harry.

It started with Mugglecast, the Mugglenet Podcast, which is still going strong after 10 years. That lead to Pottercast but admittedly I stopped listening after a while to that one. That lead on to a series of Kevin Smith podcasts but I have cut that down to three being Fatman of Batman, Hollywood Babble-On and the Nooner podcast. Back to Harry though I also listen to Alohomora which is a re-read podcast and Mugglenet Academia which are both connected to Mugglenet.

MugglenetBatman On BatmanNooner

Hollywood Babble OnAlohomora

Other fandom related podcasts that I listen to are the After Buzz podcasts for Arrow and True Detective, The Thunder Quack podcasts for Arrow called Quiver and the one for Doctor Who called Talking Timelords.. I used to listen to another Doctor Who one called the Impossible Girls which was a female podcast for the series but one of the hosts would swear a lot and that bugged me. I know that is quite weird considering that Kevin Smith and his range of podcast are not one to hold back on language but for some reason it did with this one. I also listen to a podcast called The Flash which is of course for the TV show

ABTV TD ABTV Arrow Quiver

Andrew Sims from Mugglecast started his own website called Hypable and I listen to a series of podcast released from his website . They are their Hype podcast which covers major entertainments stories that had happen during the week. Hero Hype which covers comic book super heroes and the various TV Shows and news in relation to any movies being released. Re-Watchable which I think I mentioned in my Avatar post. I don’t listen to this one all the time as I haven’t watched all the shows that they have covered.

HypeHero Hyperewatchable

The last of their podcasts that I listen to is called Onceable and this covers the show Once Upon A Time. There are two other shows that I listen too for this show that being Once podcast and Welcome to Storybrooke. The Once podcast has two podcast released during the week the first is a short initial reactions to the episode and the second later on is a little more in depth with a spoiler section at the end. The show is hosted by Daniel J Lewis and   Jeremy Loughlin for initial reactions and they come back for the full one with the addition of Erin Cruz. Their spoiler section is done by Hunter Hathaway and Jaqueline.

OnceableOnce

Greetings from Storybrooke is hosted by Bill Meeks and Anne-Marie De Simone and their show is a little more light hearted and has a lot more audience participation from regular listeners who listen live to the show. They start the show with the rhyming summary for the show and though go through key points of the episode going over what they like and don’t like. They end the discussion part of the show with an random scale (ie out of 553 cold slices of lasagne from Granny’s). They then talk news, ratings and feedback. They also host another show that I listen to called Legends of Gotham about the show Gotham and that follows the same format.

Not Fun Badger

It is kind of funny that when you give something up and then when you feel like it just as a one of you no longer enjoy it. This has happened with two things that I have given up in the last couple of months. The first is coffee, which I have already mentioned that I was going to give up. Over the last couple of weeks I have been feeling like it. It really doesn’t help that you work in the city and every second place you pass on the way sells it. I had one last week with my lunch and I really didn’t enjoy it.

The other is anything carbonated like soft drinks, mineral waters and energy drinks. I gave this up because my stomach would feel horrible after having them. On Friday I felt like having a coke. I hated every sip I had because all I could taste was the sugar. I doubt that I could even drink the sugar free variety anymore. All I drink these days is water, the occasional juice, and tea.

I am not a drinker of alcohol either. I realised my limits early and most of it makes me feel ill especially dark liquors though I do enjoy Wild Turkey but very rarely. Wine, especially red wine makes me sick and I don’t really like the taste of beer and will only have it if I really feel like it. The only liquor I like is Vodka but once again I have to really feel like it. I also like cocktails as well, especially martinis.

My other major issue that I mentioned also in my last post is my computer. My boyfriend bought me a new computer for my birthday in August but I got in June. It is an Asus T300 Chi and I loved it. Two months later however I started having issues and eventually the screen just died and wouldn’t turn on. I was able to get it replaced straight away and another two months go by and it happens it again. Once again I am getting it replaced and the store people are really good about it but I am starting to wonder if I am jinxed when it comes to computers but the one before this one had issues as well. I don’t think that I necessarily rough on them but I am starting to wonder….

Badger’s Accident

When I was around 22 years old I was in a car crash. I was a front seat passenger in a Holden Commodore coming onto a on ramp to a local freeway. Myself, the guy I was seeing at the time and a girlfriend of mine had just seen a movie at a local theatre and was heading into town to play some pool. My “boyfriend” was the driver and he was paying more attention to me then he was to the road and went right up the back of a car that had broken down. He was not speeding but my head still hit the windscreen.

I was taken to a local hospital where surgery was down on my forehead which had glass all through it. I had a hole pretty much above by left eye and had a skin graft to cover that up. Believe me when I say there is nothing scarier than a needle being put in your eye. I have a scar that goes from my over my left eye over the top where my nose starts and into the beginning of my right eye. It is only really noticeable if you are looking for it or if you really drunk as I found out when I went on a cruise a year or so later.

Even since I suffer from headaches. I have some form of headache everyday but some days they are worse than others. I wouldn’t call them migraines because I only have ever had what I would call a migraine once and I call it that because the pain of it made me cry. But they can get pretty severe to the point that I can’t see properly and they make feel quite ill in the stomach but not enough to make it physical. The headaches seem to start in my neck and a doctor diagnosed Cervical Spondylosis which is basically arthritis in the neck. Apart from heat or cold packs and ibuprofen there is nothing that can be done. I have had massages, acupuncture and physio for treatment and sometimes they work and sometimes they don’t.

http://orthoinfo.aaos.org/topic.cfm?topic=a00369

Of course the headaches don’t really help considering that I now suffer from anxiety and depression. I do not drive partially because of the accident and also because I don’t have the best concentration span and the anxiety makes that worse. I did take lessons once but ended up smashing my then boyfriends brand new Mazda 3 into a person’s fence. He tried to sue me after we broke up but that didn’t happen because I was a learner driver and he had lost his licence drink driving so I should not have been driving in the first place. I also get nervous when I am a passenger and the car speeds up which is quite odd because speed did not play a factor in the accident.

If any of you were wondering about the driver we naturally broke up. His car was written off but everything was alright with him as all he got was a sprained wrist and his daddy bought him a new car. Ever since then I have had a great dislike for Holdens.

Radical Badger

Instead  my Otaku Badger post I mentioned that my favourite anime of all time is Cowboy Bebop and today I thought I would talk a little bit about this anime in particular because I am channelling Ed a little from the show a little today with maybe a little bit of Asura the kishin from Soul Eater thrown in. Basically my anxiety is playing up big time due to work issues and the possibility that I may put in the middle of word war between two of my colleagues. Also my computer at home is not working and I didn’t walk the dogs today because I woke up late and that means I broke a promise to them, not that they would understand that but still I feel bad.

image

Now Cowboy Bebop is set in the future, 2071 to be exact, space travel is possible and most of humanity no longer lives on earth as it has become uninhabitable due to a hyperspace gate blow up. We follow Jet Black, a former cop, and Spike Spiegel, a former crime syndicate member, as they travel on a former space trawler called the Bebop. They are bounty hunters or cowboys, as they are nicknamed, as they eke out a living. Along the way they acquire a dog, a Welsh Corgi which they call Ein, a former bounty head called Faye who was cryogenically frozen who is trying to find out who she is because has very little memories and is also a con woman, problem gambler and is very vain and selfish.

Then there is Ed. Ed is actually a girl who has given herself the name Edward Wang Hwe Pepel Cybulski 4th. She is a whiz kid and hacker and is known on earth as Radical Edward. The crew come into contact with her when they chase a large bounty as someone has been making large doodles into the earth and it is believed that someone, they think Ed, has hacked a satellite to do this. She hadn’t but Faye promises her that if she helps them find who did do it then they will let her come with them. Faye of course never meant to keep her promise but Ed hacks them and come on their adventures until she with Ein decides to leave near the end of the series.

image

Ed is a strange kid who refers to herself in the third person, very rarely walks, uses her feet for unusual tasks such as typing and clapping and what I am like today easily distracted. She is also the one that bring the humor to the show. She is also one of the most enjoyable parts of the show in my opinion.

I might talk a little bit about the show in a later post and go over some of the other characters.

Marvel Badger

In my last post I went I went through my weekend plans and what do you know none of what was planned actually happened. Admittedly it was not me that kyboshed the weekend plans it was the boyfriend. This is why I don’t like making plans as it is very rare that they are followed through. I guess I am a go with flow kind of badger.

Actually one of plans actually did come to fruition this weekend and that was watching Age of Ultron with my niece. I saw it the first time in Gold Class opening weekend with my boyfriend and neither of us could say that we liked the movie all that much. We both found a little bit muddled and I personally didn’t like the way they handled the Black Widow character.

I didn’t enjoyed it any better on a second viewing and as a first time watcher my niece didn’t like it either. She found it very confusing and didn’t think any of it made much sense which to be honest, it doesn’t. She did however like the character of Quicksilver and found Aaron Taylor-Johnson attractive.

I have made mention that I am more of a DC girl than a Marvel one but I have seen all the Marvel movies and this is the first one I have not really enjoyed, which is a shame because I did enjoy the first one quite a bit. Actually I am going to introduce something that I like to do and that is listing. This list is based primarily on the Marvel movies alone and does not include other movies that are based on Marvel property such as X-Men and Spiderman though admittedly Spiderman has re-entered the fold he will probably never been included in this because I refuse to watch Spiderman movies because I do not like the character. It will also not include Marvel TV properties but I think that is obvious. I will say though that Agents of Shield is kind of disappointing, Agent Carter took me a while to get into but was good and Daredevil was great and I am looking forward to Jessica Jones.

Badger’s Marvel Movie Enjoyment List

1. Avengers

2. Guardians of the Galaxy

3. Captain America: The Winter Soldier

4. Captain America

5. Iron Man

6. Ant-Man

7. Iron Man 3

8. Thor

9. Iron Man 2

10. Thor: The Dark World

11. Avengers: Age of Ultron

Friday Badger

It is Friday so Yah!!
Being a Friday of a pay week it also means that my nieces are staying with us this weekend. We get them once a fortnight. It also means that my sister can be a little erratic in the days leading up to and also during their stay. I would definitely say that Monday was that day as she and Mum had a big fight which ended in my mother throwing stuff at her door. Tuesday my sister was all sunshine and roses and acted like nothing had happened the night before. Wednesday her “friend” showed up and took her for the day and night. She returned yesterday but I didn’t see her.

I would say that today she will be happy to a point because her kids are there. Most of tomorrow she will in a good mood but by the afternoon her “depression” will set in and she will be moody for the rest of the day. Sunday she will either be a troll and hide in her room for most of the day or she will be overly opinionated about things she really knows nothing about and annoy everyone else while she impresses these opinions on her youngest child.

Fun times ahead.

Luckily for most of Saturday I probably won’t be around. My boyfriend and I are going to watch his best friend play cricket. Well actually my boyfriend is there to watch cricket I am there to keep the best friends wife company while in the process most likely getting an huge headache because I will be sitting in the sun most of the day. Lucky for me I like the wife. We are then going to dinner after that which is something that I have been wanting to do for a while but since finding time to do that is a bit a chore as the best friends work hours are a little odd as he does shift hours and I am also the one that will most likely have to arrange it because the others can’t be bothered.

Sunday we don’t have anything planned but since I am do not like making plans to begin with because I rarely keep to them that is a good thing. Hopefully we will be watching Age of Ultron which I bought over a month ago and haven’t had a chance to watch it because of stuff and the fact that I wanted to watch it while my eldest niece was there.

Badgermole

Following on from my post yesterday I thought I would talk about another fandom that I was involved in for a little while which was Avatar: The Last Airbender. In Australia it was call Avatar: The Legend of Aang. The show ran on Nickelodeon and the ABC but I mainly saw it on Nick. It was also another show that I would consider to be a gateway show into my current love of anime as though an American cartoon the animation was very anime like as well as locations and fighting styles.

It is another one of those shame on you shows if you have never seen or even heard about. I don’t remember the date or anything of when I first saw the show but I do remember the episode. My older brother and his family had come over for a visit and we changed the channel so the kids could watch cartoons while we all talked. We put it on Nick for them and though I don’t think the kids were all that interested I was. It was the second episode of the second season “The Cave of Two Lovers”. I think from then on I found the first season on iTunes and the rest is history.

I found a podcast called “From the Spirit World” and started listening to that where they analysed episodes and also compared it to other entities like Harry Potter. They also had a website called Dongbu Feng which I joined and was a member of. Eventually I stopped listening to them as I believed that took it a little too seriously and was over analysing the show to the point where the podcast was not really fun to listen to anymore.

If you have never seen the show then I will give you a little background. The show is set it a fiction earth like planet where the population is broken up into different groups. There is the Earth Kingdom, The Water Tribes, The Fire Nation and the Air Nomads and certain people within each group are able to bend and element within their group and then one person of all is called the Avatar and they are able to bend all the elements and is reincarnated into one of the four groups after they die and is able to access their past lives through meditation.

In the show we follow Aang who is a 12 year old Airbender who is the current Avatar. He went missing after finding out he was the Avatar. He and his pet sky bison, Appa, were placed in suspended animation for 100 years in an iceberg. During this time the Fire Nation started a war and wiped out all the Air Nomads, which makes Aang the Last Airbender. He then has to learn all the elements by the Summer Solstice so that he can beat Fire Lord Ozai and bring balance to the world.

The world is made of many interesting animals which are hybrids of our own including the badgermoles. The badgermoles are said to be the first earth benders and were the ones to teach humans the art. They were also who taught Toph, a blind earthbender who ends up teaching Aang earthbending. Below is song about badgermoles which appears in the episode “The Cave of Two Lovers”.

The series went for three seasons which were called books starting with Water then Earth and then Fire, as this is the way that Aang had to learn each ability. There then was a sequel which followed the next Avatar called Korra who is a Waterbender. She had 4 seasons starting with Air then Spirits then Change then Balance.

Franken Badger

I am not the most focused today so if I ramble or go off topic, not that I really know what topic I am on today, it is because I have forgotten to take my medication for the last two days. Yesterday it most likely because of the dentist appointment this morning it more because I got distracted with other things and by other things I mean iTunes and my computer in general.

I sort kinda feel like Franken Stein from one of my favourite animes, Soul Eater, which I have been re-watching over the last couple of weeks in between bouts of simulcast shows on Animelab, Doctor Who, The Flash and Arrow and general DC/WB animated TV and movies. I think I will go into my love of DC in another post though.

Now back to Franken and Soul Eater in general. If you are a fan of anime and haven’t seen Soul Eater than shame on you as it is an excellent show except for maybe the end, but that is my opinion and I tend to think most anime series endings are not very good. The manga series does it better I believe but I haven’t read it all, I started too but because it sticks to the manga for the first half of the series and then deviates I got a little bored.

Soul eater

Well any who back to the show. What makes this one unique, not just because of the world itself but the design. It is very Tim Burtonish with a colour scheme of mainly black, white and red. It is set in alternative earth where Franken Stein is a teacher and mad scientist working for the school in Death City, Nevada. The school he works for is the Death Weapon Meister Academy (DWMA). The school is for training humans that are able to turn into weapons and those that can wield them, who are called Meisters. It is run by the Grim Reaper.

Stein, which is what he is mainly called in the show, is overcome by the madness of the main antagonist of the show, a being called a kishin, which is able to transmit it’s madness all around the world. Stein is not the most stable of characters to begin with in general due to his love of dissecting things and near the end it overcomes him and he becomes erratic, twitchy and manic. That is kind of how I feel today.
