Fairy Tale (Tail) Badger

So a little update on my health. Went and saw my psychologist and she wants me to see a psychiatrist. I have gotten the referral and my doctor has put me on new medication but I have not made an appointment for psychiatrist yet. On antibiotics as well due to having swollen tonsils last week, which admittedly dulled the anxiety until yesterday but more on that later. I have though been suffering from boats of vertigo since which is rather annoying.

Now to the anxiety issues that have flared again yesterday and also the reason for the title of this post and I should also wish Pop Goes The Badger a very happy first birthday as well. This weekend marked the Grand Final weekend for the two major football codes in Australia, Australian Rules Football and Rugby League. Now last year if you recall the premierships were won by Hawthorn Hawks who defeated the West Coast Eagles and the North Queensland Cowboys who defeated the Brisbane Broncos for their maiden win.

This year there were two different team that contested the final this year and the winning teams can consider the win as fairy tale wins. In the AFL the final was played by the Western Bulldogs and the Sydney Swans with the Bulldogs prevailing for their first win since 1954. They also become the first team to win after finish in 7th place after the regular season. Congratulations Western Bulldogs

Now the second final and the one that sent my anxiety into overdrive was as much of a fairy tale as the Bulldogs was the NRL final. This one was between the Melbourne Storm and the Cronulla Sharks. I do not go for either of these teams but the Sharks have a special place in my heart as more than half of my family support this team and if I weren’t going for my beloved Penrith Panthers they I would be barracking for them.

There is a quote attributed to legendary Rugby League coach Jack Gibson, “Waiting for Cronulla to win a premiership is like leaving a porch lamp on for Harold Holt.”

Now Harold Holt, if you are not familiar with Australian history, was an Australian Prime Minister who disappeared in 1967 after going for a swim at a beach in Victoria. The Cronulla-Sutherland Shark entered the premiership that same year. Well the porch lights were turned off in the Shire last night as the Shark won their elusive premiership last night.

Both my brothers had gone down for the match and my mother, who believes that it was because of her that they won because my boyfriend and I gave her a Sharks jersey for Mother’s Day, had worn her jersey for the last two days. I was at home and watched the match along with my boyfriend. Cronulla scored the first points in the match and lead at half time. Melbourne are not known for come backs at all but they scored first after the break and actually lead with 15 minutes left and it was there that I could not watch the match any longer. Actually it was with around 20 minutes left that I couldn’t watch no longer. I could not sit still and I was all over the place. I decided to do the dishes instead and get commentary from my boyfriend.

Luckily Andrew Fifita scored and the Sharks were back in the lead though the Storm made a valiant effort with the last set of six but the Sharks held them off. I was so emotional that I was almost crying. Congratulations to the Sharks and in particular their captain Paul Gallen, coach Shane Flanagan and Penrith boy and Clive Churchill medallist Luke Lewis. It was good to see club legend Andrew Ettingshausen there and so very emotional after seeing his Sharks finally break their drought.

Now the last part of this post is about the other Fairy Tail. I have continued by re-watch of the show and an in the ending stage of the Grand Magic Games arc. I am trying to write a review of the show for my other blog but am having issues due to the amount of episodes and characters involved. I am thinking that it will most likely be more of a pros and cons kind of post in the end.

The Badger’s Dilemma

Anxiety is high today but that was brought on by a little stress freak out due to the stupidity that I mentioned in my last post and also maybe because of too much caffeine. The freak out was due to the fact that a payment is due tomorrow and I was worried that the money wouldn’t be available when they try to take it out. Luckily this first payment is a manual payment and not an automatic one.

I have a dilemma of sorts and it is not something serious or anything.

As I have mentioned in the past I am a bit of a DC fangirl and I have a particular love for Batman and am looking forward to the movie in March. The only issue that I have is that my bf will not see the movie due to his dislike of Ben Affleck. He has however given me an ultimatum. He will see the movie if I watch Avatar, which I refuse to see due to my refusal to watch anything directed by James Cameron, with the exception of Terminator 2: Judgement Day, which I have seen and saw before I made that decision. Yes, it means also that I have not seen Titanic.

I know it is stupid and all that I refuse to watch his movies and to be honest I am not even sure why I refuse. Everyone keeps telling me that I will like the movie but I am being stubborn, can’t I be stubborn once in a while, in relation to this. I think it is in part due to my love of Avatar: The Last Airbender and its movie, which I have seen and it is terrible. However when the movie came out it was called The Last Airbender and not Avatar: The Last Airbender and I heard that the reason for that was James Cameron and his movie which was coming out around the same time and he didn’t want any confusion between the two.

So should I give in an watch the movie or should I stick to my guns? Admittedly I have seen bits and pieces of it just not all of it. I have also heard mixed things about it. Some say that it is a great movie and as I mentioned above family and friends keep telling me that I will like it. However I heard bad things about it as well and I heard that the movie doesn’t deserve the praise and hype that it gets.

What to do, what to do?

Binging Badger

Alrighty let’s get back into this. Since I last posted I have had a bit of time off in which I did absolutely nothing but was hoping to at least go down to Melbourne to visit my family there. Didn’t happen but it gave me a chance, I guess, to binge watch a couple of shows, mainly anime.

First off I wouldn’t call myself a binge-watcher but my BF has pointed out that I have been known to watch multiple episodes of television of the one show in order. However these shows are usually shows that I have already watched before and I would count it more as a re-watch than an initial binge watch and I am really only watching the show as a intro for my BF as he had not watched it before. Actually the more that I think out it I probably binge watch more than I think that I have without realising that I have been doing it.

Well any who what I have binged watched over this most recent break:

· Mr Robot – iTunes – Wonderful show and I adore Christian Slater so that made it even better.

· Anti-Magic Academy – Animelab – Pretty good

· Sunday Without God – Animelab – pretty good

· Beyond the Boundary – Netflix – A pretty good anime

· Toradora! – Netflix – Started it a while ago and then got distracted so I returned to it and watched most of it but still haven’t completed it. Pretty good anime.

· Fairy Tail – Animelab – Duh, watched the newly released dubbed episodes.

· The Flash – combination of iTunes and Netflix – re-watching season 1 with my niece and we have just started season 2. Not sure what I am going to do with the crossover episode with Arrow as I refuse to let her watch Arrow, she is only 8 after all and ever Flash can be a little too mature for her though she has watched MA rated stuff before.

I have also started watching Merlin and have given The 100 a go which I might pick up. Also watched the first episode/s of the Shannara Chronicles last night which I did enjoy. I might also re-watch Daredevil in preparation for the new season. Of course this all hinges on when I get my internet back at home as our modem decided to die over the weekend. I am totally relying on Wi-Fi hotspots and have also occasionally using my mobile in the same capacity.

Super Badger

I have threatened in my previous posts that I will do a post on DC and my preferences to the characters from these comics opposed to those in Marvel. Today is that day I believe and this week I have the rare opportunity to be able to watch Arrow and the Flash TV shows live instead of waiting for the iTunes availability that usually comes on the Friday after the airing (The Flash airs on Wednesday and Arrow on Thursday here) but sometimes it can take up to the Sunday.

The reason I have this mighty ability this week is because of the fact that my stepfather is away and thus does not have control of the remote control. My sister has no care of what I watch in the evening and I am not going to care what my BF wants. Hell I might even be able to watch Supernatural live tonight instead of tomorrow when it appears on the station stream tomorrow. That will all depend on other factors like me being able to get a good version of Once Upon A Time (unfortunately I have to torrent this one as the station that has the rights to this show are not treating it’s Aussie fans well and has not even aired the 4th season of the show) and what time my BF will be getting home tonight as he is going to visit his brother after work.

Well back to DC and why there characters are more preferable to me than Marvel. To be honest I am really not sure why. I guess I feel more invested in the DC characters than the Marvel ones. I like the X-Men characters very much and I grew up watching X-Men cartoons and my brother used to read X-Men comics. I only really saw the Batman 1960’s TV and the movies from the 80’s and 90’s and Superman from the 80’s. I loved the early X-Men movies as well. It has only been in the last 5 to 10 years that I have really come to appreciate and love DC and in particular Batman and think that is partially because of Kevin Smith.

His love of Batman got me interested in Batman and the character somehow resonates with me. I just think that he is believable and that he could really be a real person unlike other Superheroes that we see. The same goes for Green Arrow in a sense. I think it is the morality of the DC heroes that I appreciate as I think in someone ways Marvel Heroes are a little more selfish. I am probably one of the few that absolutely can’t stand Spiderman and don’t actually see the appeal or the fuss that is made about the character.

I am not the biggest of Superman fans and I never watched Smallville (though my BF did and he wants me to watch it) but I did watch Lois and Clark (Dean Cain was/is hot!!). I am, however, enjoying the Supergirl show, another show I have to torrent because it is not available here yet and I probably won’t be able to watch live though I will buy it on iTunes if it becomes available. I really don’t get the hate levelled at Aquaman as I think he has more going for him in terms of powers than some others do and his Marvel equivalent is probably Thor and he doesn’t get the hate. I also loved the Justice League cartoon movie Throne of Atlantis and Jason Momoa looks awesome as Aquaman in the upcoming movie/s.

I haven’t seen all that much of him other than a couple of the DC cartoon movies released but I am really liking Cyborg as well, yes I know he is in Teen Titans but I haven’t seen a lot of that yet as it has not become available on iTunes, DVD or any of the streaming services, but his character in the movies is very good. I am also gaining a great liking to Wonder Woman as well and not just because she is a female superhero. I also like the Greek mythos behind her because I am part Greek myself and Greek myths has always interested me (Percy Jackson, anyone).

I think that I will it at that for now but I reserve the right to revisit and talk more of my love of Batman in particular and also DC villains and in particular Joker and Harley Quinn.

Sporty Badger

It is a public holiday here today where I live. Over the weekend two of our football codes had their grand finals which I guess is comparable to a Super Bowl. We play four different codes of football here in Australia three of them, Rugby League, Rugby Union and Australian Rules are played in winter and last, Soccer, is played in Summer.

I mentioned in an earlier post that when I was younger I followed sport more closely that I do now. The sport that loved and watched regularly was Rugby League. Don’t get me wrong I still love the sport and will watch it if it is on but I will not go out of my way to watch it any more. I had a bad experience after a State of Origin match with an ex of mine and that has turned me a bit off it all especially State of Origin.

thPXHM2CPX

State of Origin is a series of three games played in the middle of the season where the best player are chosen from either New South Wales or Queensland and play against each. The best two out three win the series for that year. Queensland won this year and won 9 out of the last 10 series. I unfortunately go for New South Wales.

My team in the regular competition is the Penrith Panthers and they due to injury issues did not make the final series this year though our under 20’s did and won so congratulations to them. I have been following the Panthers since I was 13 years old and my interest in the team due to the fact that I had a crush on one of the players. He ended up leaving the panthers and going to another club but I stuck with the panthers anyway.

The team that did win this year were the North Queensland Cowboys which is great, they played the Brisbane Broncos, which made it an all Queensland Final. They only won by one point in extra time but a win is a win and this is greatest win of them all. It is their first premiership and only second time they have made the Grand Final. I am really happy that they won especially for Jonathon Thurston who is their best player. He is pretty much the best player playing the game right now and a really nice guy. Oddly enough he was also the reason why I had that bad experience with the ex but I will go into that another time I think.

new-logo

The other grand final was the Australia Football final which was between the Hawthorn Hawks and that West Coast Eagles. I am not really big into AFL football and I really don’t have a team but I guess if I did it would be Collingwood Magpies because a lot of my family goes for it and so does my boyfriend. The Hawks won for the third year in a row but then in my opinion the AFL competition isn’t as even as the NRL is. You are more likely to get more multiple premiership wins in a row in the AFL than the NRL. Only a couple of team in the NRL have a chance of not winning the premiership while in the AFL only a couple of teams have a chance of winning.
