Hufflepup

Hufflepup

My DC binge has come to an end, sort of. I am still reading the comics but I have finished the animated series now and Animelab has finally released the last of the dubbed Fairy Tail so I am watching that instead, maybe twice depending on when I next see my niece who likes to watch the show as well. I also getting an urge to binge Glee but I blame my iPod for that. My anxiety is still playing up but I am doing PT sessions through work and am hoping that they will help with that.

The topic for this post is actually my dog which I mentioned in my first post. She is a Ruby Cavalier King Charles Spaniel named Lady Ariel but she has tons of nicknames which I will go through later. My mother named her as my mother has a thing for naming our pets after Disney characters so she became Lady after the Cocker Spaniel from Lady and the Tramp and Ariel after the Little Mermaid. My mother owns a Ruby Dachshund named Winni-Pooh Schnitzel.

I bought Lady, though I was not there to pick her up. She was born in Gatton in December of 2012 but she and her litter brothers and sisters were moved to Gailes in late January due to flood waters due to Tropical Cyclone Oswald. I was in Bundaberg at the time helping with Community Recovery due to the same Cyclone. It had been a pretty bad day and the news of her purchase definitely brightened my day.

She was the biggest of the litter and is larger than most Cavies that we know of. We actually joke that she is a mutant. She is kindest natured and sweetest dog that we have ever owned. She is not a barker so is not a good guard dog. Actually we tend to think that if we ever get robbed she would probably let them and wants pats from them. We have Winni and my sister’s dog, Steve (yes, that is his name) for guard duty anyway.

She loves a good scratch and rub but it has to be when she wants it and she thinks she is royalty. I truly believe that she understands what we say and I have regular conversations with her. She is not much of an outdoors dog but loves a good walk and/or car ride. She hates other animals, other than the ones she knows and tolerates those that visit the house.

She loves food and especially a good bone. I believe that if she was human she would either be a chef or a food critic. She enjoys sleeping and snores like a trooper. Actually Snorlax (after the Pokemon) is actually one of her nicknames. Others are Ladybug, Buggy, Chewy (after Chewbacca because of her fur), Donatella, Princess (she loves bling of any kind) and lately I have been calling her Chook or Chooky but I have been calling all my nieces, nephews and dogs that lately and of course Hufflepup.

I am not just saying that either because I am a Hufflepuff. There is a sorting quiz available that lets you sort your pets. I actually sorted all three dogs and they all came up in different houses and all three houses actually suit them according to the description given. Lady is a Hufflepuff, Winni is a Gryffindor and Steve is a Slytherin.

She absolutely hates the heat and that is the reason why we have to get her groomed. She actually has two cooling mats to lie on when the weather heats up. She is strange in that likes having baths and going to the vet. She has made several trips to the vet. She has have her declaws removed and she dislocated her knee and had to have an operation to fix it. Luckily she is insured and so is Winni, who hates the vet and is not fond of baths.  She occasionally watches television and she is a DC fan like me but is more of a Superman fan than I am.

In my opinion there is not better dog than my Lady and I wouldn’t change her for the world.

Binging Badger

Alrighty let’s get back into this. Since I last posted I have had a bit of time off in which I did absolutely nothing but was hoping to at least go down to Melbourne to visit my family there. Didn’t happen but it gave me a chance, I guess, to binge watch a couple of shows, mainly anime.

First off I wouldn’t call myself a binge-watcher but my BF has pointed out that I have been known to watch multiple episodes of television of the one show in order. However these shows are usually shows that I have already watched before and I would count it more as a re-watch than an initial binge watch and I am really only watching the show as a intro for my BF as he had not watched it before. Actually the more that I think out it I probably binge watch more than I think that I have without realising that I have been doing it.

Well any who what I have binged watched over this most recent break:

· Mr Robot – iTunes – Wonderful show and I adore Christian Slater so that made it even better.

· Anti-Magic Academy – Animelab – Pretty good

· Sunday Without God – Animelab – pretty good

· Beyond the Boundary – Netflix – A pretty good anime

· Toradora! – Netflix – Started it a while ago and then got distracted so I returned to it and watched most of it but still haven’t completed it. Pretty good anime.

· Fairy Tail – Animelab – Duh, watched the newly released dubbed episodes.

· The Flash – combination of iTunes and Netflix – re-watching season 1 with my niece and we have just started season 2. Not sure what I am going to do with the crossover episode with Arrow as I refuse to let her watch Arrow, she is only 8 after all and ever Flash can be a little too mature for her though she has watched MA rated stuff before.

I have also started watching Merlin and have given The 100 a go which I might pick up. Also watched the first episode/s of the Shannara Chronicles last night which I did enjoy. I might also re-watch Daredevil in preparation for the new season. Of course this all hinges on when I get my internet back at home as our modem decided to die over the weekend. I am totally relying on Wi-Fi hotspots and have also occasionally using my mobile in the same capacity.

Franken Badger

I am not the most focused today so if I ramble or go off topic, not that I really know what topic I am on today, it is because I have forgotten to take my medication for the last two days. Yesterday it most likely because of the dentist appointment this morning it more because I got distracted with other things and by other things I mean iTunes and my computer in general.

I sort kinda feel like Franken Stein from one of my favourite animes, Soul Eater, which I have been re-watching over the last couple of weeks in between bouts of simulcast shows on Animelab, Doctor Who, The Flash and Arrow and general DC/WB animated TV and movies. I think I will go into my love of DC in another post though.

Now back to Franken and Soul Eater in general. If you are a fan of anime and haven’t seen Soul Eater than shame on you as it is an excellent show except for maybe the end, but that is my opinion and I tend to think most anime series endings are not very good. The manga series does it better I believe but I haven’t read it all, I started too but because it sticks to the manga for the first half of the series and then deviates I got a little bored.

Soul eater

Well any who back to the show. What makes this one unique, not just because of the world itself but the design. It is very Tim Burtonish with a colour scheme of mainly black, white and red. It is set in alternative earth where Franken Stein is a teacher and mad scientist working for the school in Death City, Nevada. The school he works for is the Death Weapon Meister Academy (DWMA). The school is for training humans that are able to turn into weapons and those that can wield them, who are called Meisters. It is run by the Grim Reaper.

Stein, which is what he is mainly called in the show, is overcome by the madness of the main antagonist of the show, a being called a kishin, which is able to transmit it’s madness all around the world. Stein is not the most stable of characters to begin with in general due to his love of dissecting things and near the end it overcomes him and he becomes erratic, twitchy and manic. That is kind of how I feel today.

Otaku Badger?

Yes, I know Otaku is a Japanese term for geek and essentially it means I and so I a naming this post the same as my previous post but I like to think that Otaku is a little more selective than your run of the mill geek as it their likes are more related to their own cultural fandoms rather than a wider pop culture they admittedly they do intermingle.

https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Otaku

I wouldn’t even say that I am full on Otaku either but I do enjoy anime a lot and I have read some manga. I mentioned in my last post that it was my involvement in Godrics Hollow that lead me to my current enjoyment of anime. Of course I had watched anime before when I was young not realising that it was anime at the time. You know titles like Astro Boy, Kimba the White Lion and Voltron, before or after school television on the ABC when I was growing up.

Godrics Hollow had a member who used an anime character as her character image for her avatar and signature and I was interested in where it was from so I asked her. It was Julia from Cowboy Bebop. She recommended the show thinking that I would like it. Like it I did and Cowboy Bebop is probably my favourite anime of all time.

From then I would the shelves at the closest Borders to find and buy anime. Streaming was not available in Australia at the time and I then found a DVD hire deliver service called Quickflix and would borrow titles from them and would buy the ones that I enjoyed and would watch again. I stopped using Quickflix but continued to buy titles I found interesting. I also got my niece into as well and it would our thing to do together. That leads me to our show at the moment….Fairy Tail

I buy the DVD when they are released but we watch it through a streaming service here in Australia called Animelab which is run by one of the main distributors of anime in Australia, Madman. The service is free but you can pay for premium content, which I do. They offer anime in sub and dub versions and have most of Fairy Tail in the dubbed variety which is easier for my niece. It is simulcast as well which means a new episode a week so I am all caught up on the story though my niece isn’t.

I might go into a Fairy Tail and talk about other titles I enjoy at a later time and maybe make some recommendations but I think that that is all for now.
